Why Most Therapy Doesn't Work for ADHD

You're not broken.
The approach was wrong.

Standard therapy assumes neurotypical executive function — planners, habit stacks, "just be consistent." ADHD brains don't work that way. You need a therapist who starts from that truth, not fights against it.

01 Willpower-based strategies fail ADHD brains — you need dopamine-sensitive, interest-driven approaches that work with your neurology
02 Emotional dysregulation, RSD, and somatic overwhelm need specific clinical tools — not general "breathe and journal" advice
03 Decades of masking create trauma layers that must be addressed alongside ADHD — they can't be separated
04 A therapist who doesn't specialise in adult ADHD will miss the most important patterns — and leave you feeling like you failed therapy again
Before Specialist Therapy
  • "I've tried therapy, it didn't stick"
  • Felt like homework nobody completed
  • Blamed yourself for not improving
  • Tools felt designed for someone else's brain
  • Exhausted from performing neurotypicality
With ADHD-specialist therapy
  • Strategies built for how you actually think
  • Understanding replaces shame, immediately
  • Emotional regulation becomes genuinely possible
  • RSD and overwhelm have names — and exits
  • Life feels manageable, not like constant catch-up
Our Therapeutic Approaches

Every modality chosen
for ADHD brains.

We don't use one-size-fits-all methods. Your therapy is composed from a toolkit of evidence-based approaches — matched to your specific presentation, history, and goals.

🧠Core
CBT for ADHD

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy adapted specifically for ADHD — restructuring negative self-talk, building realistic routines, and replacing shame-driven thinking with practical self-understanding.

❤️‍🔥Emotional
RSD & Emotional Regulation

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria is one of the most painful and least-discussed ADHD symptoms. We work directly with emotional flooding, people-pleasing, avoidance, and the intensity of feeling "too much."

🏃Body-Based
Somatic Approaches

ADHD lives in the nervous system, not just the mind. Somatic Experiencing and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy help regulate the dysregulated body — particularly valuable where anxiety, shutdown, or freeze states co-occur.

⚙️Practical
Executive Function Coaching

Structured, personalised strategies for planning, time management, task initiation, and follow-through — designed for ADHD brains, not neurotypical assumptions. Measurable and practical.

🎯Skills
ADHD Coaching

Goal-oriented, strengths-based work on career, relationships, and daily functioning. Bridges the gap between insight in therapy and change in real life — especially useful for high-achievers navigating complex environments.

🌿Integrative
Trauma-Informed Therapy

Years of being misunderstood, punished, or labelled leave real psychological wounds. We integrate trauma-informed care throughout — recognising that ADHD and trauma are deeply intertwined for most adults.

Who we work with

You don't have to look
like the ADHD stereotype.

Adult ADHD is vastly under-identified — especially in people who've masked well, achieved highly, or been told they "can't have ADHD" because they function.

🎭
The High-Achiever Who's Secretly Exhausted

You've built a successful life on willpower and compensating strategies. But it costs you enormously. You're running on empty and don't know how to stop the performance.

🔍
"I Think I Have ADHD But I'm Not Diagnosed"

You've researched, you recognise yourself in every description, but you haven't had a formal assessment. You don't need a diagnosis to start therapy — we can work with you as you are.

🆕
Recently Diagnosed, Figuring It All Out

A diagnosis is both a relief and an opening. You're reprocessing your past, renegotiating your identity, and trying to build new strategies. Therapy is the best place to do that work.

💬
"Therapy Hasn't Worked For Me Before"

If previous therapy felt like being given tools for a different brain — it probably was. ADHD-specialist therapy is fundamentally different in its assumptions, pace, and methods.

What changes

What our clients
actually experience.

01
The shame lifts

Understanding your neurology — really understanding it — replaces decades of self-blame with something closer to self-respect.

02
Emotions become navigable

RSD still happens. But you have language for it, tools to regulate it, and a shorter recovery time — that's the real goal.

03
Masking becomes optional

You stop white-knuckling through life. Strategies replace performance. The gap between who you are and how you show up closes.

04
Executive function improves practically

Not because you "tried harder" — but because you have systems that work with your dopamine regulation, not against it.

05
Life feels manageable, not like survival

The goal isn't to cure ADHD. It's to stop fighting your brain and start working with it — sustainably, with real support.

Client Stories

From the people we've worked with.

★★★★★

Mr. Lekh Bajaj was recommended by a dear friend. After trying multiple others, I was apprehensive — but he put me at ease from the first conversation. Not just a thorough professional, but someone who genuinely cares. Thank you for changing lives.

Mehran Singh Katoch
★★★★★

From the very first session, Akshita helped me identify what I was struggling with and guided me on what I could do about it. She's been there for spiralling thoughts, overthinking, procrastination, and so much more. Best therapist in Gurgaon.

Shruti Jain
★★★★★

The techniques are tremendously useful — explained clearly, broken into simple practical steps. What makes the approach so effective is how seamlessly they're woven into daily life. I finally have tools that actually work for how I think.

Questions

Things people usually ask.

Do I need a formal ADHD diagnosis to start therapy?
No. Many of our clients come to us strongly suspecting ADHD but without a formal diagnosis. We can work with you as you are — and if a formal assessment would help you, we can facilitate that too through our in-house RCI-registered clinical psychologists.
How is ADHD therapy different from regular therapy?
Standard therapy often assumes neurotypical executive function — linear progress, consistent effort, habit-building. ADHD therapy starts from different assumptions: dopamine-sensitive motivation, variable attention, body-based dysregulation, and the psychological weight of years of misunderstanding. The tools, pacing, and framing are fundamentally different.
I've tried CBT before and it didn't work. Why would this be different?
Generic CBT often misses ADHD because it doesn't account for the neurological roots of the behaviours it targets. ADHD-adapted CBT is different — it integrates emotional regulation, body awareness, and realistic expectation-setting. We also layer in somatic, trauma-informed, and coaching approaches depending on what you need, so no single method carries all the weight.
Can therapy be done online?
Yes — and for many clients, online therapy works better. It removes commute friction (a real ADHD barrier), allows you to be in a familiar regulated environment, and is available anywhere in India or internationally. Our online sessions are identical in quality and depth to in-person.
What does a typical therapy session look like?
Sessions are 50–60 minutes. They're collaborative, not lecture-style — you lead with what's present for you that week, and your therapist helps you connect it to your patterns, your ADHD profile, and your goals. Early sessions focus on understanding; later sessions become more strategy-focused as trust builds.
How often do I need to come, and for how long?
Most clients start with weekly sessions. Duration varies — some people find significant relief in 8–12 sessions; others do longer-term work, especially where trauma or identity is involved. Your therapist will review progress regularly and you're always in control of the pace.
Is my information completely confidential?
Absolutely. Everything discussed in sessions is confidential and stored securely. Nothing is shared without your explicit consent. This applies equally to in-person and online sessions.
Do I need medication alongside therapy?
Not necessarily — that's a decision for you and a psychiatrist. Therapy and medication serve different functions and many clients make significant progress with therapy alone. If you want to explore medication, we can provide documentation for psychiatric consultation as needed.
