A psychoeducational assessment is a structured evaluation that looks at both a child's cognitive ability and their academic skills to understand how they learn — and why they may be struggling. It combines an IQ assessment, academic achievement testing, and a look at attention and processing, producing a clinical report that explains a child's learning profile and what would help. Families usually seek one when a bright child is underperforming, when a school has flagged a concern, or when there's a question of a specific learning difficulty.

Where a learning difficulty is suspected, the assessment may also draw on the NIMHANS SLD Battery. The exact instruments are chosen by the clinician based on your child's age and the referral question.
