TL;DR

  • Coming out is a choice, not a duty. We help you decide what's right for you, including waiting.
  • We help you check your safety, plan the conversation, and prepare for different reactions.
  • After you come out, we support you through the fallout, and can offer family sessions when everyone is ready.
  • Online across India and in person in Gurgaon, in English, Hindi or Punjabi.
  • If you are being threatened or forced into marriage, call 112 in an emergency or iCall on 9152987821.

What Is Coming-Out Support?

Coming-out support is counselling with a queer-affirmative therapist that helps you think through whether, when, how and to whom to share your sexual orientation or gender identity. It covers practical planning — safety, timing, what to say — as well as the feelings around it: fear, guilt, hope and grief. It continues after the conversation too, because coming out is rarely a single moment, and first reactions are often not the last ones.

In Indian families, coming out often touches much more than identity. It can raise questions about marriage, family reputation, religion, and what parents imagined for your future. A good therapist helps you hold your own needs alongside your love for your family, without assuming either has to win.

Is This You?

  • You've rehearsed the conversation a hundred times in your head and never started it.
  • Your parents are talking about marriage, and the clock feels like it's running out.
  • You came out and it went badly, and now home feels tense or cold.
  • You want to tell one person but you're scared it will spread to everyone.
  • You're married, or older, and only now letting yourself say this out loud.
  • You're not sure you want to come out at all, and you'd like to be okay with that.

What We Help With

  • Deciding whether and when — weighing what you hope for against the risks, at your own pace.
  • Safety planning — if you live at home, depend on family financially, or worry about violence or forced marriage.
  • Planning the conversation — who first, where, what to say, and how to respond to hard questions.
  • Coping with reactions — shock, silence, anger, denial or religious objections, and how they often change over time.
  • Coming out at work — deciding what to share and handling colleagues' responses.
  • Coming out as trans or non-binary — to family, friends and at work. See trans and non-binary affirmative therapy.
  • Coming out later in life — including within a marriage.
  • Family sessions — when you're ready and with your consent, a space for parents to ask questions and work through their feelings.

Safety Comes First

You never have to come out before it is safe for you. If you depend on your family for housing or money, if there's a history of violence at home, or if you fear being forced into marriage or taken for “treatment”, waiting is a sensible decision, not a failure. Many people build independence first, or come out to a trusted sibling or friend before telling parents.

Conversion therapy has no scientific basis, and India's National Medical Commission has said it is professional misconduct for doctors. If you're being threatened or forced, call 112 in an emergency, or iCall on 9152987821 for support.

How Therapy Helps

Sessions give you a private space to get clear on what you want, practise the words, and think through the reactions you're most afraid of. Your therapist can help you build a support network for afterwards, and work with the guilt and shame that often come with going against family expectations. We see people individually through our queer-affirmative therapy service, and couples dealing with one partner not being out through same-sex couples therapy.

Online Across India, or In Person in Gurgaon

You can see us over secure video from anywhere in India or abroad, or in person at our centre in Sector 70, Gurgaon. Many people choose online sessions because it's easier to find a private space than to explain a trip. We agree with you at the start how it's safe to contact you.

In NCR, see LGBTQ+ therapy in Gurgaon and Delhi NCR.

What Your First Session Looks Like

  1. Free discovery call — message us on WhatsApp. Tell us as much or as little as you like, and how it's safe to reach you.
  2. Your first session (50 minutes) — we talk about where you are now, who you're thinking of telling, and what worries you most. There's no pressure to decide anything.
  3. A plan you understand — by the end you'll know how your therapist suggests working and roughly how often to meet.
  4. You decide — there's no obligation to continue, and you can ask to switch therapists if the fit isn't right.
