Is This You?

  • Your teenager says “you just don't get it” — and you're starting to wonder if the culture gap is part of why.
  • You want your children to keep their roots, but every conversation about it turns into a fight.
  • Your child seems anxious, withdrawn or angry, and you don't know whether it's normal teenage stuff or something more.
  • School pressure, grades and college applications have taken over family life.
  • Your parents and in-laws have strong views on how you're raising your kids, and you feel caught in the middle.
  • You'd like help, but you're not sure a local therapist would understand your family.

Why Indian Families Abroad Choose an Indian Therapist

Indian families abroad often choose an Indian therapist because many parent–child conflicts come from the gap between Indian family values and the culture children grow up in. An Indian therapist understands both sides — respect, family duty and academic expectations as well as independence and identity — and helps parents and teens understand each other without either side being made wrong.

Children of immigrants often live in two worlds: one at home and one at school. Parents carry their own pressures — distance from family, work, and the hope that the move was worth it. When these meet, conflict is common and understandable. Therapy gives the family a place to slow down and talk. See also our page on teen therapy.

What We Help Families With

  • Parent–teen conflict — arguments about freedom, friends, phones, dating and respect.
  • Identity and belonging — teens feeling “too Indian” at school and “not Indian enough” at home.
  • Anxiety, low mood and withdrawal — spotting what's going on and what helps.
  • Academic and exam pressure — grades, comparison and fear of disappointing parents.
  • Screen time and gaming — setting limits without constant battles.
  • Parenting disagreements — between parents, or with grandparents. See NRI marriage counselling.
  • Big transitions — a move abroad, a move back to India, or a change of school.

How Online Support Works for Families Abroad

Support for families abroad usually begins with an online parent session. From there, the plan can include parenting guidance, individual sessions for your teen with parental consent, or family sessions. Parent sessions are available in English, Hindi or Punjabi, at early-morning or late-night IST times that fit after-school and after-work hours.
  • Parenting guidance — practical support for parents of children of any age.
  • Teen sessions — with parental consent, and a clear, agreed approach to privacy.
  • Family sessions — parents and teen together, including grandparents joining from India if helpful.
  • Timing — early-morning IST sessions fall in the North American evening; late-night IST sessions fall in the North American morning and the UK evening.

How It Starts

  1. Free discovery call — a parent messages us on WhatsApp with your country, time zone, your child's age and what's going on.
  2. Parent session first (50 minutes, video) — we understand your family, your concerns and what you've already tried. You don't need to have the right words.
  3. Agreeing a plan — parenting guidance, sessions for your teen, family sessions, or a mix. For teens, we talk openly with both of you about consent and privacy before starting.
  4. You decide — there's no obligation to continue, and you can switch therapists if the fit isn't right.

What Online Therapy from India Can and Can't Be

Coach For Mind is an India-based practice. Our Clinical Psychologists are registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), and our Counselling Psychologists are trained and practise in India. We are not licensed by health or licensing boards in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, the Gulf or any other country, and we do not bill overseas health insurance.

Online therapy is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency services: in the US call or text 988 (or 911); in the UK call Samaritans on 116 123 (or 999); in Canada call or text 988; in Australia call Lifeline on 13 11 14 (or 000).
